Escargo privacy policy

Last updated 30 September 2026

The short version: There are no accounts, no advertising and no tracking, and we never sell or share data. The game sends us basic play stats (which levels are played, for how long, on what kind of device and how smoothly it runs) under a random id, with no name, account or IP address. You can turn this off any time in Settings → Data, and where the law asks us to, the game asks you before sending anything. Your progress lives on your device, and purchases are handled by the store you bought from.

Who we are

Escargo is made and published by Vikom Media (“we”), based in Vancouver, Canada. This policy covers Escargo on iPhone, iPad, Mac, Windows and the web, and its beta builds (including those distributed through TestFlight). Questions about privacy go to Vikom Media’s privacy contact at [email protected].

What the game collects: play stats

The game has no sign-in and never asks for your name or email. To learn how the game is played and what to make next, it sends us play stats. These go to our own server; there are no third-party analytics, crash-reporting, advertising or tracking SDKs. The stats are:

We use the stats only to run and improve the game: to count players, see which levels are too hard, find the devices the game runs poorly on and fix that, and decide what to build. We do not combine them with other data, do not use them to identify you, and do not sell or share them. They are kept for up to 25 months, then deleted.

Your choice. You can turn play stats off at any time in Settings → Data → Share play stats. Turning them off stops sending, clears anything waiting on your device, and asks our server to delete the stats it holds for your id. In the EU, the European Economic Area, the UK, Switzerland and Quebec (or where the game cannot tell where you are), the game asks first, and sends nothing until you say yes. It doesn’t ask when you first open the game: the question comes once, after you finish your first route or after the game has had to lower its graphics quality, and you can answer it later in Settings → Data too. Elsewhere it is on by default, and the title screen says so.

Access and deletion. Settings → Data shows the first part of your id. Email it to [email protected] to have the stats for that id sent to you or deleted.

Problem reports (beta builds)

Beta and development builds have a Report a problem button. When you use it, the game sends us a recording of your last few attempts (the inputs and what the game did), the recent game log, basic device and build details, and any note you type. It is sent only when you press the button. We use it only to reproduce and fix the problem, and delete it once we are done. Release builds from the App Store do not include this button.

Data stored on your device

To remember where you are in the game, the app keeps the following on your device only:

Apart from the play stats described above, this data never leaves your device unless you choose to share it (for example by emailing us a screenshot). Deleting the app deletes it. If you have iCloud backup turned on for the app, Apple may back it up as part of your device backup under Apple’s own terms.

Motion sensors

If you choose tilt controls, the game reads your device’s accelerometer to steer. The readings are used in the moment to move the snail and are not recorded or transmitted.

In-app purchases

The game offers optional one-time purchases (for example The Full Route and Special Issue). These are processed entirely by the store you buy from (on iPhone, iPad and Mac, Apple through the App Store). We never see your payment details. The store gives us only an anonymous confirmation that a purchase was made, which the game uses to unlock the content you bought and to restore it on a new device. The play stats record which upgrades are unlocked, but never any payment information. Apple’s handling of your data is described in the Apple Privacy Policy.

Children

The game is suitable for all ages. It never asks anyone, including children, for personal information, and the play stats are used only to run and improve the game, never for advertising or profiling. Purchases are governed by the parental controls and Ask to Buy settings on the device.

TestFlight beta builds

If you play a beta build through TestFlight, Apple may collect crash logs and any feedback or screenshots you choose to send through TestFlight, and shares them with us so we can fix problems. That collection is controlled by Apple and described in the TestFlight terms; we use what we receive only to improve the game.

Website beta signups

The optional beta signup form on this website is separate from the game. If you sign up, you provide your email address, preferred platforms and consent to receive beta-related emails. We send those details to the Vikom team by email to coordinate testing and invitations. We do not publish them or use them for unrelated marketing. Signing up does not guarantee beta access.

We retain signup emails while organising the beta, or until you ask us to remove your signup. To request removal, reply to a beta email or contact [email protected]. The site also uses short-lived hashed IP addresses to limit repeat submissions; these expire after an hour. Hosting and email systems may keep ordinary security and delivery logs.

Changes to this policy

If the game starts collecting anything new, for example if we add online leaderboards, we will update this page and the App Store privacy details before the change ships.
